Abstract

Plastic has become a popular and widely used material around the world, leading to a significant increase in plastic production. However, more than half of plastic production ends up as non-degradable waste in the environment, creating serious environmental pollution problems. This research focuses on the use of polypropylene plastic waste as a partial replacement for sand in self-compacting concrete (SCC), with the aim of reducing environmental impacts and developing environmentally friendly construction materials. Evaluation was carried out on concrete mixes with the addition of polypropylene plastic waste and superplasticizer additives. The test results showed that the addition of 1% polypropylene plastic waste in 4 concrete variables resulted in a compressive strength of 19.33 MPa. Despite the addition of additives, there were fluctuations in compressive strength due to the uneven surface of the concrete during testing. However, the combination of polypropylene plastic waste with the addition of superplasticizer at a certain percentage improved the workability of concrete, in accordance with SNI 03-2834-2000 standards. This research highlights the potential use of polypropylene plastic waste in SCC concrete as an environmentally friendly option for construction materials. Through this research, it is expected that polypropylene plastic waste can be an alternative construction material that supports sustainable construction by minimizing the use of primary natural resources.
