Abstract
Body shaming on social media is a new crime that has emerged due to the advancement of the internet. Platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Twitter are often used for this act. Unfortunately, the negative impact of body shaming on victims is often overlooked by society. Therefore, legal firmness is needed to address this issue. This research aims to understand the legal regulations related to body shaming on social media, particularly according to Article 27A of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE). This study also aims to explore the legal accountability of body shaming perpetrators. The methodology used is normative legal research, which refers to the theories and regulations from legal experts. The legal sources used include primary, secondary, and tertiary sources. Article 27A of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) and Article 315 of the Criminal Code (KUHP) regulate violations of body shaming. Both these laws impose obligations on the perpetrators of this crime. Article 45 paragraph (4) of Law Number 11 of 2008, as amended by Law Number 1 of 2024, regulates insults that involve mocking someone's physical appearance or skin color on social media. This offense can be punished with a maximum prison sentence of six years. Keywords: Body Shaming, Legal Accountability
