Low-plasticity clay (CL) is prone to lateral deformation, making Poisson’s ratio (ν) a key indicator for evaluating its mechanical response. This study investigates the effectiveness of biostimulated Microbially Induced Calcite Precipitation (MICP) in reducing ν. Unconfined Compression Tests (UCS) were conducted on untreated and MICP-treated samples at incubation periods of 0, 7, and 14 days. The value of ν was calculated from the ratio between lateral and axial strain for each stress level. The results show that MICP significantly decreases ν across all incubation periods. In untreated soil, ν decreased by approximately 65.6%, while in MICP-treated soil the reduction reached 17.2%. These reductions indicate better control of lateral deformation and a shift in soil behavior from plastic to more elastic. The decrease in ν is attributed to CaCO₃ precipitation produced during biostimulation, which fills pore spaces, strengthens interparticle contacts, and restricts lateral strain development. The findings confirm that bio-cementation through MICP effectively improves deformation stability and provides a sustainable stabilization method for low-plasticity tropical clay.
