Abstract

Diabetes militus (DM) is a disease or chronic metabolic disorder that occurs because the body cannot produce enough insulin or cannot use insulin effectively. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that supports glucose entry into the body’s cells, then makes energy needed by muscles and tissues. Compliance is defined as a person's behavior in taking medication, following a diet, and making lifestyle changes, in accordance with recommendations that have been agreed with health workers. This study aims to determine the level of adherence to the use of oral antidiabetic drugs in DM patients at the Kauman Health Center, Ponorogo, East Java and to determine the factors that influence the adherence of DM patients to the use of oral antidiabetic drugs. In this study, descriptive analysis method was used using the ARMS-SF questionnaire which consisted of 5 questions regarding drug use compliance. The results of the adherence of DM patients in this study at the Kauman Health Center, Ponorogo, East Java, the level of compliance was high from 120 respondents, which resulted in 110 (91.67%) respondents being obedient and 10 (8.33%) respondents not being obedient. . The results of the chi square test gender p-value = 0.519, age p-value = 0.735, and education level p-value = 1.526. The factors of gender, age and education level in this study based on the chi square test did not affect adherence to the use of oral antidiabetic drugs in DM patients at the Kauman Health Center, Ponorogo, East Java.
