Abstract

Road construction generally utilizes flexible and rigid pavements that are impermeable, causing water puddles and reducing safety while driving. The use of porous concrete is expected to be an alternative that can drain water puddles on the road surface. Porous concrete typically has relatively lower strength compared to normal concrete. In this study, the addition of substitute materials such as sand and silica fume was carried out in the mixture to enhance the strength of porous concrete. The variations of sand proportion used were 0%, 10%, and 20% of the weight of gravel, and the proportion of silica fume was 10% of the weight of cement. The ratio between the weight of cement and the weight of gravel in this study was 1:4. The water-to-cement ratio (w/c ratio) used was 0.30, and the aggregate used was uniformly sized crushed stone ranging from 10 to 20 mm.The test results of porous concrete in this study overall met the specifications of porous concrete as required in ACI 522R_10. The results showed an improvement in strength, where the maximum compressive strength and flexural strength were obtained in the variation of 20% sand proportion + 10% silica fume, with values of 17.16 MPa for compressive strength and 3.87 MPa for flexural strength. Meanwhile, the void content and permeability decreased. The lowest values of void content and permeability were obtained in the variation of 20% sand proportion + 10% silica fume, with values of 15.35% for void content and 4.13 mm/s for permeability.. Keywords: Sand, Silica Fume, Porous Concrete, Compressive Strength, Flexural Strength, Void Content, Permeability.
