Abstract

This research discusses the collapse mechanism of Howe-type steel frame bridges using non-linear analysis. The reliability of bridge structures is crucial for ensuring the safety of bridge users and smooth transportation. Howe-type steel frame bridges are commonly used bridge structures, characterized by diagonal systems within the steel frame that provide strength and stability. However, to ensure the reliability of these bridge structures, a thorough understanding of the collapse mechanism is necessary. This study employs non-linear analysis to model the behavior of Howe-type steel frame bridges under external loads. The method takes into account material non-linearity, complex loading conditions, and significant structural deformations. By using non-linear analysis, a detailed understanding of the collapse mechanism of the bridges can be achieved, along with identification of factors that influence the strength and stability of the structures. The research findings demonstrate that non-linear analysis provides more accurate information regarding the strength, deformations, and stability of Howe-type steel frame bridges. The method enables the identification of potential weak points that may not be detected through linear analysis, thus allowing designers to optimize the structural design, enhance strength, and ensure reliability of the bridges.This research offers valuable insights to improve the safety and reliability of Howe-type steel frame bridges. With a comprehensive understanding of the collapse mechanism, the reliability of bridge structures can be enhanced, ensuring the safety of bridge users and facilitating smooth transportation through robust bridge infrastructure.
