Abstract

Malang Regency is an area with high rainfall intensity and increasing traffic volume. This condition has an impact on the durability of road pavements, especially due to the infiltration of water into the subsoil and the increase in vehicle load which causes accelerated pavement degradation. This study aims to evaluate the relationship between rainfall, average daily traffic (LHR), and soil carrying capacity measured through California Bearing Ratio (CBR) on road pavement durability in Mulyoarjo Village, Lawang District, Malang Regency. The research method used is a quantitative approach with analysis of rainfall data, LHR, and CBR laboratory testing at several observation points. The results showed that the increase in rainfall accelerated the weakening of the soil carrying capacity, while the increase in LHR led to an increase in dynamic load which accelerated the fatigue of the road structure. Low CBR values in some locations indicate the need for soil stabilization measures and improved pavement layers to improve road durability. This study provides technical recommendations in the form of improving drainage systems, the use of pavement materials that are more resistant to traffic loads, and data-based road maintenance strategies to extend the life of road pavement services in Malang Regency. The results of this study are expected to be a reference in road infrastructure planning and policies that are more adaptive to environmental conditions and increasing traffic loads.
