Abstract
To reduce the amount of need for asphalt as a basic ingredient, additional materials are sought, for example using plastic. The material used is LDPE (Low Density Polyethylene) plastic waste. LDPE plastic has the properties of being easy to process, strong, flexible, waterproof, translucent and softens at 70 ̊ C. The asphalt mixture using this plastic will be tested in the laboratory to find the values of the hot asphalt mixture using the Marshall Test method. In this study, various percentages of plastic were tested, namely 0%, 3%, 6%, 9%, 12%, and 20% by weight of asphalt. This study aims to determine the optimum level of asphalt AC-WC, the optimum level of plastic asphalt and the differences in Marshall test results between ordinary asphalt and plastic asphalt. The KAO value for AC-WC asphalt was obtained at 6.125% and the KAO value for plastic asphalt was obtained at 7.45%. In the values of density, flow, and VFB, asphalt without plastic is greater than that using plastic. While the value of stability, VIM, VMA, and MQ asphalt without plastic is smaller than that using plastic. Keywords: Asphalt requirement, Additives, LDPE plastic
