Abstract

Pollution of wastewater is a serious problem in many areas, including in the City of Kediri. The high level of Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD) in wastewater indicates the presence of abundant organic matter, which can damage water quality and threaten the life of living things in it. To overcome this problem, wastewater treatment at households using the Mutual Cooperation Waste System (SLG) is an attractive alternative. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wastewater treatment using SLG as an effort to reduce BOD in households in Kediri. Through this research, we collect wastewater samples before and after processing using SLG. We analyzed the rate of BOD reduction, changes in water quality, and environmental factors such as temperature, pH, and microorganism density in the SLG. The results showed that wastewater treatment using SLG was effective in reducing BOD levels. There was a significant reduction in BOD levels after treatment, indicating that the biological processes in SLG are capable of decomposing organic matter in wastewater. In addition, the quality of wastewater has also improved after processing, with a decrease in other pollution parameters such as Total Suspended Solid (TSS) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). Environmental factors such as temperature and pH affect the effectiveness of wastewater treatment using SLG. Optimal temperature and pH according to the needs of microorganisms in SLG can increase processing efficiency. In addition, the density of microorganisms in SLG also plays an important role in the decomposition of organic matter in wastewater. This research provides a better understanding of wastewater treatment at households using SLG in Kediri City. This information is useful for communities and governments in implementing more effective and sustainable wastewater treatment systems. Thus, this research contributes to efforts to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability as well as public health in the area. Keywords: Waste, Bods, Effectiveness
