Abstract
This research explores the use of HDPE plastic waste as a modification in AC-WC mixed asphalt pavement. With the global production of plastic waste increasing, especially from single-use packaging, it is important to find waste management solutions. This study aims to understand the effect of adding HDPE plastic in levels of 30%, 50% and 70% on the mechanical properties of asphalt. The test results show changes in the physical properties of asphalt, such as a decrease in penetration test, softening point and flash point, due to modification of HDPE plastic. Marshall tests are performed to evaluate modified asphalt mixtures, showing improved stability and Marshall Quotient. HDPE plastic content of 50% provides optimal results with a stability value of 803.856 Mpa, 3.77mm in flow testing, and 2197.917 Kg/mm in MQ calculations. This research contributes to understanding the potential for using HDPE plastic waste as a sustainable solution for plastic waste management. Modification of asphalt with HDPE plastic can improve pavement performance, especially at 50% HDPE plastic content. Therefore, using HDPE plastic waste as a partial replacement for asphalt in AC-WC mixtures can be a sustainable and environmentally friendly solution to reduce the impact of plastic waste.
