Abstract

Indonesia is experiencing global problems, namely the increasing number of infections and mortality due to COVID-19. The level of public knowledge about COVID-19 remains very low. Consequently, the infections and mortality rates from this virus are increasing. The behavior of preventing COVID-19 is one way that can be done to control COVID-19. Good public knowledge will result to COVID-19 prevention behavior in the communities in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and the prevention behavior of COVID-19 in Indonesian society. This research is a quantitative study with a correlation analytic design. This study was conducted in May 2020. The target respondents of this research are Indonesian people with a research sample of 522 respondents who were taken randomly through the Google form application which was distributed via WhatsApp to the targeted respondents. Data were analyzed using Spearman Rho correlation analysis in SPSS. The results showed that almost all of the respondents (99.6%) had less knowledge about COVID-19. Meanwhile, almost all of the respondents (97.3%) had displayed good behavior to prevent COVID-19. The results further showed that there was a relationship between the level of knowledge and the prevention behavior of COVID-19 in Indonesian society. Statistical analysis using the Spearman’s Rho test, the value of ρ = 0.000 <α (0.01) H0 is rejected, meaning that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the prevention behavior of COVID-19 in Indonesian society. The correlation coefficient of 0.182 indicated that the relationship between the two variables is very weak. The direction of the relationship between the two variables is positive (0.182) so that the relationship between the two variables is unidirectional. The study concludes that there is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the behavior of preventing COVID-19 in Indonesian society. Keywords : Knowledge, Preventive Behavior, COVID-19
