Abstract

Kedondong Nganjuk Highway is included in the Surabaya-Madiun connecting highway and is categorized as a national road that is often crossed by heavy vehicles carrying loads. However, flexible pavement damage on Kedondong Nganjuk Highway is one of the serious problems that affects the quality of transportation infrastructure. This study aims to analyze the effect of Average Daily Traffic and vehicle load on the level of flexible pavement damage. Average Daily Traffic was collected through a three-day survey, while vehicle load data was obtained from the analysis of vehicle axle configuration and the calculation of the Equivalent Single Axle Load (ESAL) value. The results of the study showed that Kedondong Highway is included in the class 7 road classification with an Average Daily Traffic of 26,533 vehicles/day. Heavy vehicles make the largest contribution to road damage with a total ESAL value reaching 36,690.45 and Truck Factor (TF) > 1 which indicates significant damage due to excessive vehicle loads. The most dominant road damage is crocodile cracks, with a level of damage reaching 29% of the total damage. This study recommends that periodic maintenance be carried out to maintain road conditions and prevent further damage. These findings are expected to be a reference for authorities in planning more effective and efficient road maintenance.
